SurpRice is a leather-like material made from rice straw and rice husk the agricultural by-products left after harvest that would otherwise be burned in the field. Through a proprietary, patented process, this waste is transformed into a durable, design-led material suited to premium accessories, interiors, and product design.

Unlike PU-coated synthetics, the bio-content in SurpRice is genuinely derived from agricultural waste, not petroleum.

After rice is harvested, the remaining straw and husk are by-products with no food-chain value. The prevailing practice across South and Southeast Asia has been open-field burning contributing to seasonal air quality crises and carbon emissions.
SurpRice diverts this waste before it reaches the field. Growers at our sourcing cooperatives receive a direct premium for diverting material from burning thereby creating income for smallholder farmers and reducing particulate emissions in surrounding communities. Rice is the world’s second most cultivated crop, making our supply chain structurally stable and geographically resilient.
After harvest, rice straw and husk are often burned as agricultural waste across South and Southeast Asia, contributing to carbon emissions and air pollution.
SurpRice redirects this waste into a refined material process, supporting farming cooperatives, reducing emissions, and creating a resilient supply chain built from one of the world’s most cultivated crops.
| 01 | Recovery | Rice straw and rice husk are collected from documented farming cooperatives and selected for consistent fibre quality before processing begins. |
| 02 | Processing | The raw material is refined and engineered through our patented process to achieve the structure, durability, and consistency required for premium applications. |
| 03 | Surface | Texture, touch, and surface response are developed at this stage preserving the natural character of the rice material while elevating it to a refined, modern aesthetic. |
| 04 | Finishing | The finished material is tested against performance protocols for specific end use. Test data is available to brand partners at the specification stage. |

We describe environmental performance using specific, verifiable statements. Where data is in progress, we say so clearly — we do not use terms like “sustainable,” “eco-friendly,” or “100% natural” without verified data behind them.
Verified
| Agricultural waste feedstock | Rice straw and rice husk are documented by-products diverted from open-field burning. |
| No incremental land use | Feedstock is a residue of existing rice cultivation with no additional land or inputs required. |
| Farmer premium payments | Direct premiums paid to cooperatives for waste diversion documented. |
| Higher bio-based content | Meaningfully higher than conventional PU or PVC alternatives. |
| Lower microplastic load | Specifically formulated to be readily better fossil fuel-based alternatives. |
In Progress
| Third-party LCA | ISO 14040/44-benchmarked Life Cycle Assessment underway. Comparative figures published on completion. |
| EPD | Environmental Product Declaration to follow LCA verification. |
| OEKO-TEX testing | Skin-contact safety testing in progress. |
